MARY ELLEN HILL SCHUPBACHCROSS COUNTRYINDUCTED IN 2013Hill Schupbach starred in the area as both a prep and collegian, firstat Princeville High School then at Bradley University, as one of thearea’s top female distance runners. While at Princeville Mary Ellenwas a two time state medalist in cross country, won four conferencechampionships in the 1600 meters and 3200 meters, and finishedin the top three in the state in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs a totalseven times. Her career kicked into another gear at Bradley, evenat a time when the women’s running programs were at a low point.Mary Ellen claimed 10 Missouri Valley Conference cross countryand track championships while at Bradley from 1996-2000, whilealso twice earning NCAA Division 1 All-American honors in the 5,000meters. In addition she earned individual titles in 1998 and 1999 atthe Missouri Valley Cross Country Championship. Perhaps however,her biggest accomplishment was to aid the progress of Bradleywomen’s cross country program. She led the Braves to their firsteverconference crown in any women’s sport in the school’s historyas co-champions with Drake in 1998. A seven-time AcademicAll-American, Hill Schupbach received a prestigious NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship and was the recipient of the inauguralDr. Charlotte West Award as the year’s top all-around, graduatingstudent-athlete in the Missouri Valley Conference. She also wasselected the Illinois NCAA Women of the Year 2000. Mary Ellen HillSchupbach is considered the most accomplished female athlete inBradley history.
