Chillicothe High School, which suffered two losses the previous year, bounced back in the fall of 1957 to post its third unbeaten season in four years. The 9-0-1 Grey Ghosts outscored their opponents 379-78 while collecting their fourth consecutive Illio Conference title. The only Chillicothe setback, relatively speaking, was a 13-13 tie at Washington that left the Grey Ghosts 6-0-1. An estimated 4,000 fans attended the contest. The t957 season was the third in which Ron Taylor played a major role on Chillicothe teams coached by his father, George Taylor. The younger Taylor began his successful bid for Little All-State honors by completing four touchdowns passes on 12 attempts in the season opener at Princeville. Taylor and senior ends Jerry Blew and Norb Lumpp were consensus first-team All-Illio selections. Senior fullback Jim Arnold, who scored three touchdowns against Farmington, was named to the All-Illio first team by one area newspaper and to the second team by another. The younger Taylor continued his playing career at Missouri, where he led the Tigers in passing in 1960 and 1961. He was their quarterback in an Orange Bowl win over Navy after the 1960 regular season.
